Solomon Islands Set for New PM Vote on May 15
(MENAFN) Governor General David Tiva Kapu has set May 15 as the date for a parliamentary vote to elect a new prime minister, following the ouster of Jeremiah Manele after a razor-thin no-confidence motion toppled his government.
The National Parliament delivered the decisive blow on Thursday, voting 26 to 22 to strip Manele of the premiership — a margin of just four votes that ended his tenure and plunged the Pacific island nation into a leadership transition.
Candidate nominations will be accepted from both the opposition coalition and Manele's outgoing administration between May 8 and May 10, before lawmakers reconvene on May 15 to determine the country's next head of government.
